Pine Marten Identification

Send us your samples!

Pine martens are fully protected by the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) and are listed as critically endangered in England and Wales. Efforts to reinforce Pine Marten populations and reintroduce the species to these areas are ongoing. Monitoring Pine marten presence requires a range of field techniques including collecting fur and scats. Pine marten scats can be easily confused with fox droppings and fur from tube traps is often collected in small quantities, making identification difficult. At Ecotype Genetics we can take the guess work out of monitoring Pine marten populations with our dedicated genetic identification service.

What we offer:

  • DNA extraction from field samples including scats and fur.

  • Accurate and reliable Pine marten identification using our species-specific genetic tests.

  • Results within 10 (standard) or 3 (express) working days.

  • A streamlined sample submission and ordering process.

  • Discounted pricing for non-profit work, conservation groups and bulk orders.
